During the summer months, the constellation Cygnus (the Swan), traces an arc in the sky, from the NE to the NW. The swan is home to some of the most spectacular nebula in the night sky. The bright star Deneb denotes the tail of the swan and along with stars Altair and Vega makes up the Summer Triangle. If you look just to the right of Deneb you will find the Pelican Nebula.

The Pelican Nebula is located about 1,800 light years away. According to NASA, the light from young energetic stars is slowly transforming the cold gas to hot gas (blue areas), with the advancing boundary between the two, known as an ionization front, visible in bright orange.
