The Great Cluster in Hercules (M13) is about 22,000 light years from Earth and has a diameter of about 145 light years. It was discovered by Edmond Halley in 1714. The stars in the cluster are thought to be between 12 and 13 billion years old. That’s almost as old as the Universe itself.
